About the Workshop
Join Becca and Amanda from Ewe & Ply in a short series of workshops exploring the absorbing and tranquil art of Sashiko stitching.
In three sessions you will be guided through the first few forms of Sashiko stitching and learn about its origins and history as you stitch.
The first session will cover Hitomezashi stitches using straight lines, crossed and overlapping stitches.
The second session covers Moyozashi stitches using curving lines without crossing.
The third session looks at variations on the stitches already learned and shows you how to put your swatches together to create a traditional Japanese rice bag.
All sessions will cover the fundamental aspects and techniques of Sashiko, from holding the needle to deciding on your stitching path, and will consider freehand work and marking fabric with a chosen pattern.
Each session is complete in itself, so you can book individual workshops for the content you require, or all three to immerse yourself.
Please Bring
Please bring swatches of a loose weave fabric to stitch onto, approximately 8" (20cm) square.
Linen, cotton or ramie fabrics work best. (Denim is not recommended at this stage.)
Needles and thread will be provided.
